What is the Clocktown Police Union?
Clocktown Police Union is the labor union that represents the law enforcement officers employed by the Thomaston Police Department located in Thomaston, Connecticut. The Clocktown Police Union is an independent local of the Connecticut Alliance of City Police, comprised of the Thomaston Police Department officers. Our sister unions are Brass City Local (Waterbury PD), Elm City Local (New Haven PD) & Rubber City Local (Naugatuck PD). Combined we are collectively the Connecticut Alliance of City Police. As a whole, we aim to support our police officers by advocating for our rights, improving working conditions, and negotiating fair wages and benefits through collective bargaining. The Clocktown Police Union provides support and legal services for Thomaston Police to better our officers in order to serve our community better.
Our Story
In the years prior to 2024, the Thomaston Police Union was under the umbrella of a large national union. After many years it was evident the large union had little interest in the well-being of our police officers, negotiated sub-par contracts, and handcuffed our ability to contribute the community of Thomaston at a local level. The needs of our police officers and the needs of Thomaston were not being met. Such deficiencies had lasting effects still felt to date. The Thomaston Police Union decided change was needed. Despite the risks involved, the union body unanimously decided to decertify, and defected from the national union. In February 2024, upon approval of the Connecticut State Board of Labor Relations, our union officially became the Clocktown Police Union, an independent union, also known as the Clocktown Local, of the Connecticut Alliance of City Police (CACP). Being an independent union allows us the ability to have full control of where and how we put forth our efforts, self-govern ourselves, and negotiate our own contracts. Financially, this allows our member paid dues and funds raised to remain within the Thomaston community.
In 2026, Clocktown Police Union, Inc became a registered IRS non-profit organization under 501(c)(5), providing the legal roadmap to begin fundraising efforts. These funds are used to further support and provide protections our police officers require above and beyond the benefits provided by employment alone, such as legal services and insurances. As a local police union, we are committed not only to supporting our police officers, but in strengthening the community of Thomaston we proudly serve. The Clocktown Police Union is a proud supporter of local businesses and non-profit organizations in and around the Thomaston community.
We look forward to working with you to achieve our goals for Thomaston together.
